Split From Marjan

Hi Folks,
In the year 2012 I happened to be in Split Croatia. I was taking a lot of photos that year and quite a few were around Split. I walked up Marjan Hill and there happened to be an old little church half way up. It was fairly impressive so I took a look around.
It is a bit of a hike about half an hour or so but fairly steep. I moved around and saw a lovely little statue at the front entrance on the roof.

Nice Statue

I Liked the church and decided to take a full photo from the side but at the front.
The name of the Church is Sv Nikole and found out it was built in the year 1219.
I guess it makes it 795 years old according to my maths.

My last photo was just a little bit down the hill and it gave a sweeping view of the City.
I had my tripod and set the camera on it and took the photo. The sun had just gone down and we were getting into the twilight time. A tripod is a must in these situations as there was no way that I could hold the camera steady enough.
Split From Marjan Hill

It was very peaceful and relaxing and I must say I totally enjoyed the mood and the scene.
What you see in the picture where the lights are on is the Split Riva and that is the place where most tourists come to enjoy a coffee and any assortment of drinks.

If you have any comments then leave them below as I would love to get some feedback.

Interesting Pont Of View.

Hi Folks,

Today I have 3 photos that I kind of like. I remember having a quiet afternoon around Split in Croatia. I had my camera in tow and had a wide angle lens attached.
I always look for something different which I think will make an interesting subject.
My first photo is of a cat. Now normally I don't find cats interesting but what made this interesting for me was the distortion that one gets with a wide angle lens.

Distorted Cat

Looking at the photo you would not think that i was about 3 inches away from the cat but that is how far I was from this cat.
If you notice you will see that the body is slightly longer than what it should be. That is the bias of the wide angle lens. When you use a wide angle lens you really need something in the foreground to give a sense of depth.

The second photo was from the fish markets in Split. I  took this one morning with my normal walk around lens zoomed out to get a diagonal line running from the bottom left to the right leading you through. They are sardines of course.

Sardines

We all know cats like fish right. That is why these sardines are here as the cat above always hangs around close to the fish market.

My third photo has nothing to do with the cat and the sardines although the round nature of that subject could in effect symbolise the world.
This photo was taken in a place called Dugopolje which is about 20km's out of Split. There were plenty of clouds that day with a threat of rain and I just thought it looked very dramatic. I came across this fence with this chrome ball on one of the posts and I just liked the mirror effect I was getting.
Mirror Mirror On The Ball

I liked the clouds that were showing and the house. I managed to blur out the left hand side and the effect was getting some specular highlights.

Comparing Apples And Oranges

Hi Folks

I was wondering if anyone liked sunflowers as my first photo is a sunflower that I took a picture of in Croatia.
I know the title is comparing apples with oranges but I thought I would just trick you all.
Mr Sunflower
Seriously It is about apples and oranges. The second photo is a variety called red delicious which they have also in Croatia. I am not sure of the Croatian name of any of these as they are generally called a Jabuka.
Red Deliscious
I was practising my food or close up photography and they make good subjects as they are colourful. Mind you getting a shot of this stuff is hard because of the amount of people at the pazar(market place) that tend to bump you and a tripod would not have enough room.

The third photo is some oranges and they are very big over there. I am not sure if they are as sweet as the ones in Australia well at least the ones I tried.
Orange Oranges
I tried to frame the oranges so that you are looking from the bottom left to the top right through the image.
The last photo is a photo of some Granny Smith or at least some green apples.
The green tend to be my favourite and no doubt others like them as well.
Granny Smith
I liked the idea of posting some fruit and it is great to see some of the variety's. I also enjoy taking photos of different things because most people have taken all the landscape type photos and you have to be somewhere where there is a beautiful landscape.

I would have to say that my favourite fruit would have to be the green apples.

Thank you for visiting My Photographic Observations

A Little Abstract II

Hi Folks,

Welcome to My Photographic Observations.
My theme for this post is a theme that I tackled ounce before called A Little Abstract.
I like to get close up shots and I also like to try something different. I am not an expert but I have three photos which I think will be interesting.

This first photo is a close up of paint splatter on a concreted floor.
Snake Maybe
To me it looks like it is some sort of a head as you can see an eye with a thin neck on the right and maybe a tongue on the left. Of course it is none, but, I just think the blue of the concrete and the yellow really stand out. I think of it as abstract as it is not a normal type of photo depicting a landscape, portrait etc.

The second photo is also a close up and also not the normal.

Turtle Maybe
I wouldn't begin to try and describe but this is a dollop of paint on a rock near the north mole in Fremantle. I just like the colours as it seems to me to be very soothing. The bright spot being the white in the middle. I think that maybe it looks like a turtle but then who knows.

The last photo I was practising a technique called the Monet after the great painter Monet.
Monet Style or Shaky Camera
The idea from a camera point of view is to set a slightly longer shutter speed and then shake the camera over the subject. In this case being this shrub.
I like the effect but I think in hindsight I would do this with a bed of colourful flowers.
I like to experiment with abstract because you can basically photograph anything and have different styles.
I like to take photos of landscapes but you cant always get a nice landscape so therefore it forces me to think out of the square.

Thank you for dropping by My Photographic Observations and until my next post adios.
