How to Pose For Friends And Family

Hi All,

Welcome to my photographic observations.

I am often amused but at the same time love the way people pose when they
 are being photographed.
Its interesting and at the same time its nice to see the personality in the
people or the girls in both these pictures.

The first the young lady is relaxed but somewhat a little nervous in front
of her friends camera. As in most cases I took the shot unbeknownst to her.

I don't have models to work with so I always like to practice where I can. I mean not
the right angle coz I was not the photographer if you know what I mean.

The second pic the lady exuded a huge amount of fun and zaniness which was
fun to see and bought a smile to myself.

Both pictures taken in Split Croatia.

Thank you for taking the time to look and read.

If you have any comments please leave below as will be appreciated weather good or bad lol...

Each To theyre Own Way

Hi All,

Welcome to my photographic observations.

Today's theme is what I notice when out and about and how people tend to relax.
For me relaxing is just walking around and watching people and landscapes and finding something to photograph that interests me.

Here I have a couple of pictures of the obvious.

The first photo is a lady waiting for her ordered item at a restaurant.
To pass the time and relax she does what most of us do is play with her mobile phone.

I found this interesting as I like table scenes also.
Of course I transfered to black and white to give a more contrasty feel.

The second picture is slightly different as a group of women are sitting around and contemplating what is around them.

Probably tired after a day of adventure or even recovering from the night before.

Enjoying and relaxing but each of the photographs and showing the different forms of relaxation.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Life Is A Beach

Hi All

Welcome again to My Photographic Observations.

Summer is nearly upon us here in Perth, Western Australia and I thought would write about a beach theme today.

My photos are from Supetar on the Island Brac in Croatia.
I normally don't photograph beach scenes but occasionally the photographs speak for themselves.

The first picture The lady was standing and I liked the feel with the mountains in the background.

I processed as a black and white to even out the tones.

My next picture is more of a populated scene with a few people enjoying the late afternoon sun.

The clouds threatening on the horizon but nothing is going to stop these few enjoying themselves.
I guess when you are a tourist you want to lap it all up as you can lol...

Thank you for taking the time to read.
If you have any comments please leave below weather it be good or bad.

Wonderful Flowers

Hi All,

Welcome to My Photographic Observations.

Today my observations are flowers which are in abundance in
Split Croatia.

I thought I would share 3 pictures of the flowers although to my
embarrassment I don't know what type they are.

In the first picture below the yellow flowers were on the Split Riva in flower beds.

As you can see I framed it with the bell tower in the background
but out of focus so a person knows where the photo was taken without being
too obvious. The front walls of Diocletian's Palace are also in view.

The second photo I loved the red flower in front of a restaurant.

Here I also put the subjects behind out of focus and concentrated on the flower
and it seems to have worked well in my opinion, although that is also in the eyes of the beholder.

The last photo it was so pretty and of course i blurred out the background
but you still get a sense of where the place is by the arches.

I could have isolated the flowers and framed differently, maybe tighter perhaps.
I will say i like the way I framed as I liked the results I got and it seems to work.

Thank you for taking the time to read.
As always if you have any comments good or bad please leave down below.
Love feedback.

Alternate Views Of Maritime Museum

Hi All,

Welcome to my photographic observations.

One of the things I like in photography is the various different
compositions and feel of a scene.

Today I have alternate views of the Maritime Museum in Fremantle.
One is a long exposure black and white photo and the other is in colour
taken at the blue hour or twilight.

The first image below is the black and white which was exposed for approximately
2 minutes to get the smooth water.

I used a tripod of course and also a 10 stop nd filter to get the long shutter speed
of 2 minutes. Would have been impossible to hold steady for such a long time.
I also used a cable release as to not touch the camera.
I processed this pic in lightroom and silver fx pro 2 for the black and white.

The next pic is also the Museum but this time a little later and with a tighter crop.

I didnt use the ND filter here as it was going to be a longer shutter speed
because of the fading light.

Thankyou for having a read of my photographic observations.
If you have any comments would love to read them.

Walking Around Split.

Hi All,

Welcome to my photographic observations.

Whenever I am in Split, Croatia I always like to take street photos and
also like to photograph anything that interests me really.

Today I have a set of photos of mainly buildings and one of the iconic
sculptures like the one you see below.

The sculpture is of Gurgur Ninski and behind is the watch tower of what used
to be the outer walls of Diocletian's Palace. I decided to have as a black and white
photo as was cloudy and light a bit flat. Actually all photos today in Black and White.

The second photo above I liked the clouds but also the shapes and texture of all the
buildings and roads. The scene before you is the side of a church on left called Gospa Od Zdravje.
You can see the bell tower and a nice part of the city.

The last photo I am thinking I love the clouds and the texture and old stones that
the buildings are built with. So I framed the shot as to not take in any cars as place
had plenty veichles and clutter below.

I love black and white and I try to incorporate where I can as I think it tends
to give photos a certain charm and feel.

Thank you for taking the time to read my photographic observations.

If you have any comments good or bad would love to read them.

Bye for now,

Reflections And Shop Windows.

Hi Folks,

Welcome to my photographic observations.

Today I am sharing 2 photos I thought were interesting to me.
I am calling it reflections and shop windows and I just like the way we look at windows
and how they are presenting what we see.

The first photo is typicaly a store window and in this case it is displaying
certain items in a lovely setting to invite peoples curiosity and at the same time to
hopefully come in the store to browse and buy...

It looks pleasant enough and not that the bag interests me but none the less tempting lol...

The next window or windows is reflections from across the street and very nice
I think at an abstract sort of way.

Now of course nothing to buy but just showing how different and interesting
reflections and windows can be weather it be a shop window or reflections
from glass and windows.

Thank you for taking the time to read my photographic observations.

Colour Or Black And White

Hi All,

Welcome to My Photographic Observations.

There are times when you take a picture and you think,
What do I prefer the colour rendition or the black and white version.

I like black and white especially if I am shooting street photography
as I feel it takes away all the distractions. I'm not saying that colour street is
not good as it has its place as well.

Here I have a picture that I processed twice. Ounce in its original colour
and the other processed in black and white.
It isn't a street photo but a picture of a door on a light house in Fremantle.

I framed for a tight shot and I loved the vividness of the red and white and
also the orange rust stains which gave the photo grit.
Although happy with the result I thought to myself, why not try black and white
and see what is result. I tinkered around for a while and in the end the result below
is what I ended up with.

The black and white version shows a lot more grit I think but after all I still have a hard
time choosing. If you had a choice which would you prefer.
For me I have two images that I can use or share in case someone prefers black and
white or colour.

Thank you for taking the time to read My Photographic Observations.
If you have any comments good or bad please leave below as I love feedback
weather it be good or bad lol...

Different Perspectives Of An Old Powerstation

Hi all,

Welcome to My Photographic Observations.

Today I am showing the difference of not just taking one shot but many shots
and choosing what possibly works best at different perspectives and focal lengths etc.

Close to where i live in Fremantle, Western Australia there is an old abandoned
building. It is the South Fremantle Power Station.
It makes for wonderful subject matter and there are days when there are clouds about
the place instead of a bald sky, which always makes for interesting photography.

This particular day was fairly overcast which seemed to soften the light and give
nice even lighting. The first shot I took I wanted to capture the clouds that were
everywhere as they truly looked amazing.
I set my aperture as I shot in aperture priority and under exposed slightly so as not to
blow out the sky as I wanted the cloud detail. The picture below is the end result
of that attempt which I think turned out quite nice.

The only problem was I did not think of foreground interest to give the pic some depth.
I processed in Lr 5 and this is how it ended up.

I moved a little closer and tried a different perspective by also zooming in to capture
more of the building. However this time I included foreground interest and although
not in the same wide angle and overall vastness  of the first image I think it is more interesting.

I guess it comes down to what a person prefers but each photo has its own great qualities I think.
Although I would say that coz I am biased obviously lol...

Perseverance and taking many shots is what it boils down to. I took about 20 shots at various focal lengths etc and out of them you should have at least 2 or 3 images that stand out.

Thank you for taking the time to read and if you have any comments for or against I
would love to read by leaving comments down below..
